Millenium Green

Overview
Ideford Millennium Green is a community-owned and managed open green space in the heart of the village of Ideford, Devon. It was established around the year 2000 as part of the UK-wide Millennium Greens initiative — a National Lottery-funded programme to create accessible natural areas for local people to enjoy.

The Green exists in trust for the benefit of the village and is maintained as a natural open space for informal recreation, leisure, community events, family outings, and wildlife enjoyment. It has a small play area, open grassland, a stream, and basic recreational features rather than formal sports pitches or built facilities.

Ownership & Governance
• It is held and run by the Ideford Millennium Green Trust, a registered charity (Charity Number 1076438).
• The Green is legally protected by its trust deed dated 1 April 1999 — it must be kept open and available for community use “in perpetuity”.
• The Trust is run by a volunteer Board of Trustees responsible for maintenance, fundraising and oversight.

How It’s Funded & Managed
The Green operates on a not-for-profit basis. It raises funds through local fundraising, donations and modest community support. It isn’t directly run by the Parish Council, although the council may support insurance, grass cutting or small grants; management responsibility lies with the trustees.

Community Role
Ideford Millennium Green serves as a key social and natural asset for the village, a pleasant place for walking, informal play, meeting neighbours, and holding small community gatherings. Trustees and volunteers keep it tidy and accessible.
